After the gun scare at Marietta this week I think there is a valid argument for cell phones in classrooms! Cell phones that are connected.

Waverly High School made the announcement on Monday that any students caught with a cell phone would have the phone taken away and I parent must pick it up in order for it to be returned...

I have heard a lot of parent complaints, and after this... I understand!

I agree Carolyn, there are valid arguments from many perspectives . . . it will be interesting to see how schools handle this issue in the future.

I agree with you... It´s really not easy -now a day- to be save, even in the school. I think to solve this problem is not a cell phone issue... It´s more to take the guns away ... especially, from a place like schools ... It´s really a scary world.

Most teachers in our building have cell phones as an emergency back up, even though we all know that we are not supposed to use them during regular school hours. But it is reassuring to have. Our area had someone that was reportedly dangerous was "at large", towards the first part of the year and our school was in a semi-lock down for two days. It was an interesting experience to see how it all really unfolds, esp. working w/young children (we never let on w/them so they wouldn't get scared). Cell phones should be a priority as a back up means to communicate during any emergency situations. I understand the other perspectives as well.
